Things You'll Need:
- CLEP Study Materials
- Textbooks
- Desk Lamps
- Desks
- Personal Computers
-
Step 1
Find out what the tests you are taking will cover. The College Board offers a comprehensive guide called "The Official Study Guide for the CLEP Examinations," as well as detailed descriptions of each test at its Web site.
-
Step 2
Review textbooks in the appropriate subject area or areas for the exams you have signed up for. Because each of the tests is designed to cover material taught in courses that most students take as requirements in the first two years of college, assigned texts for those classes provide a good content review.
-
Step 3
Practice with sample questions, available online at the College Board Web site.
-
Step 4
Develop a strategy for taking the test. All CLEP exams are timed, multiple-choice tests in which all questions are of equal value. They are scored by counting each correct answer, and then deducting from that total a fraction of incorrect answers. There is no deduction for unanswered questions, so don't spend too much time on any one question, and for heaven's sake, don't guess.
-
Step 5
Aim to pass the exam, not ace it. A satisfactory score on the CLEP exam earns you college credit, but no letter grade.
-
Step 6

on 3/30/2008 I have earned 24 credits in 10 weeks by taking CLEP exams. Now I am hooked! If you haven't checked out www.instantcert.com yet, then you have to. For $20 per month, I can study for nearly every CLEP and DANTES test available. The InstantCert forum is free and I have made several friends there. Make sure to check it out if you want the best study resource available, for as little money as possible.
BTW: I do not work for InstantCert in any way, I am just a positively thrilled customer spreading the buzz!

on 2/22/2007 They no longer deduct points for incorrect answers, so definitely DO GUESS if you don't know an answer.
