How to Watch an SRT File

Subtitle files come in a number of file formats, and SRT (SubRip) is one such file format. You can create or modify any SRT file using a basic text editor such as Notepad or WordPad. SRT files can be played on a number of media players, including Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player and the DivX Plus Player.

Instructions

  1. Media Player Classic

      Click "File" and select the "Open File" option to go to the location of the movie that you want to watch along with the SRT file.

      Select the movie and click "OK" to play it.

      Click "File" again and select the "Load Subtitle" option this time to go to the location of the SRT file.

      Select the SRT file and click "OK" to watch it alongside the movie.

    Windows Media Player

      Download and install "DirectVobSub" (see Resource section).

      Copy the SRT file and paste it into the same folder where the movie that you want to watch is located.

      Name the SRT file with the file name of the movie. You can rename the SRT file by right-clicking and selecting "Rename."

      Open the movie in Windows Media Player.

      Pause the movie, press "Alt," point to "Play," point to "Lyrics, captions, and subtitles," and then select the "On if available" option. Resume playing the movie again to watch the SRT file alongside the movie.

    DivX Plus Player

      Copy the SRT file and paste it into the same folder where the movie that you want to watch is located.

      Name the SRT file with the file name of the movie. You can rename the SRT file by right-clicking and selecting "Rename."

      Open the movie in the DivX Plus Player. The SRT file will automatically launch with the movie.
