How to Upload Google Maps to a Garmin

Google maps has partnered with Garmin, bringing users more convenience when planning trips and locating favorite places. By plugging a Garmin device into a computer with Google maps open, the user can upload points to the Garmin system and save the locations as "Favorites." When a point is loaded as a favorite, the user simply selects it from the favorites section of the device and sets it as the destination to get turn-by-turn directions to that location.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the Garmin device to the computer using the USB cable that came with the device.

    • 2

Open your Internet browser. Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari are all supported.

    • 3

Go to "Google Maps" from the Internet browser. (See Resources.)

    • 4

Search for the desired location by entering it in the search bar located at the top of the page in Google maps.

    • 5

Select "Send" then "GPS" under the "Send To" drop down menu.

    • 6

Click "Garmin" under the brand name in the drop-down GPS menu.

    • 7

      Select "Send."

    • 8

Check the box next to "USB" then check the box next to "Garmin."

    • 9

Select "Send to GPS." The location is now saved as a favorite on the Garmin device.
