How to Change a Mitsubishi Lancer Alternator

      Pop the Lancer's hood and disconnect the battery with a wrench, first removing the negative cable and then the positive.

      Raise the car using your jack and support with jack stands.

      Undo the side cover panel, on the bottom of the car, on the passenger's side. To do this, use a ratchet and socket.

      Mount a socket onto the breaker bar and turn the tensioner to loosen the belt so you can remove it from the alternator pulley.

      Remove the electrical connections on the alternator using a wrench.

      Remove the water pump pulleys using the ratchet and socket.

      Unbolt the alternator using the ratchet and socket. Lift the alternator and remove it from the engine.

      Put your replacement alternator in place and fasten its bolts. Replace the water pump pulleys and all the alternator's electrical connections.

      Replace the alternator belt and tighten according to manufacturer guidelines.

      Replace the side cover panel, lower the car and reattach the cables to the car's battery.
