How to Replace a Birkenstock Shoe Sole With a More Durable Sole

Birkenstocks are ideal for summer.

As of 2010, Birkenstock has been manufacturing footwear for more than 225 years. The most well-known Birkenstock model is the leather-strap sandal. Its shoes are designed for comfort, support and practicality, and they are sold worldwide. Birkenstocks have a cork outsole and rubber soles. A skilled cobbler should be able to replace the soles on your shoes with whatever sole you'd like.

Instructions

1. Research cobblers and shoe repair shops in your neighborhood. Choose a cobbler that has experience working with Birkenstocks.

2. Bring you clean, dry Birkenstocks to your local shoe repair shop.

3. Ask the cobbler what sole options are available to place onto the shoe. Vibram specializes in durable soles designed for traction. This, or another durable rubber, may be an option for your shoe.

4. Decide whether you would like to just replace the sole or have the cork replaced as well. Most Birkenstock sole replacements will include minor cork repair and cork sealant, but you may want to consider replacing the cork if it is in poor shape.

5. Select the sole you'd like to add to your shoe. Since Birkestock soles are removable, your cobbler should have no problem replacing them.
