How to Check for Solaris 10 Patches

Developed by Sun Microsystems and now owned by Oracle, Solaris is a Unix-based operating system capable of operating on both servers and workstations. Oracle periodically releases patches to the system to correct bugs, add features and improve performance and security. Because some applications can only run if specific patches have been applied, it is considered a best practice to see which patches are already present on your machine before starting a new installation process. Once you know the proper command, listing the patches installed on Solaris 10 becomes a quick task.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to Solaris 10 with a user name that has administrator-level privileges.

    • 2

Right-click a blank area on the desktop, select "Tools" and then click "Terminal" to launch a Terminal window.

    • 3

      Type the following command:

      showrev -p

    • 4

Press the "Enter" key to execute the command. The list of all patches applied to Solaris 10 appears within the Terminal window immediately.
