How to Attach a Bow Sling

A bow sling is the part of the bow, usually a metal triangular piece, through which the archer slips his bow thumb in order to prevent the bow from leaving his hand during the kickback after a shot. This type of bow is not as common as it once was, since many archers are using more automatic versions for hunting that require less effort. If it interests you to experience the hobby of archery authentically, you should know how to properly assemble each piece of your bow.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • Locate the riser of the bow. It is fairly low on the area of the bow that will be held in your hand.

  • Slide the bow sling onto the riser. Make sure the narrow end is facing toward the side of the bow that will be strung. Fit the bow sling into the notch in the riser, if available.

  • Find the hole on the front of the riser; this is the mounting hole for the stabilizer. Screw the stabilizer into this hole, holding the bow sling in place until the stabilizer is flush against it and holding it securely to the riser. Tighten the stabilizer carefully with a wrench, if necessary.
