How to Detect Spector on Mac

Spector is a utility program that can monitor network activity and record keystrokes on a Macintosh. It is used in business and educational environments where system administrators want to monitor users very closely for unauthorized activities. If you are using a Macintosh that may have Spector installed, you can use the Activity Monitor utility to determine whether it is running.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the Activity Monitor software from the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.

    • 2

Click on the drop-menu in the top of the window and select "All processes."

    • 3

Type "spd" into the search field. All applications and background processes that do not contain "spd" in their names will disappear from the Activity Monitor window.

    • 4

Leave Activity Monitor open while you use the Macintosh for other activities. If Spector is installed, you will see a "DriverSPd" process appear periodically in the Activity Monitor window, which is the software that is monitoring your use of the computer. It will only appear in this window when it is actively in use, but any appearance indicates that it is installed and active.
