How to Add Pictures on Wikipedia

Being that Wikipedia is community-edited, it relies on users to create content, check facts and upload images that can be associated with entries. Wikipedia requires that uploaded images be in public domain or that the user uploading an image own the copyright for the picture in order to add it to Wikipedia.

• Confirmed Wikipedia user account

1. Navigate to Wikipedia and log in to your account. If you do not have an account, registration is free. In order to confirm your Wikipedia account, it must exist for at least four days and you must make at least 10 edits. Until that point, you will not be able to add pictures to Wikipedia.

2. Select "Upload a File" from the "Toolbox" section in the left sidebar.

3. Select the type of image you are uploading from the available options.

4. Click the "Upload" button half-way down the screen and select the picture you wish to add to Wikipedia and then click "Open."

5. Input the image details and click "Upload File" to add the picture to Wikipedia. Once the picture is uploaded, you can associate it with Wikipedia articles related to the image.
