How to Set Mozilla as Your Default Browser

When you open Windows Explorer and double-click an HTML file, a browser will launch and display a Web page. That Web page will open in your default browser. The system registry stores the name of that browser and other settings that Windows uses to manage your computer. When you install a new browser, it may prompt you to make it your default browser. That will remain your default browser until you change it. If Mozilla Firefox is your favorite browser, you can perform this task manually and set it as your default.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Firefox" icon on your desktop to open the program.

    • 2

Click "Tools" and "Options" to show the "Options" window.

    • 3

Click the "Advanced" tab and click "General."

    • 4

Click the "Check Now" button. Mozilla Firefox checks to see if it is the default browser.

    • 5

Click "Yes" if you see a message reading "Would you like to make it your default browser?" If you do not see this message, Firefox is already your default browser.

    • 6

Click "Continue" if you receive a prompt from Windows.

    • 7

Click "OK" to close the "Options" window.

Tips & Warnings

  • After you set Mozilla Firefox as your default, other browsers may prompt you when you open them. The prompt will ask if you want to change your default browser. Answer "No" to keep Firefox as your default.
