The TrendNet Wireless Card Will Not Connect to the Linksys Router

Wireless cards like those manufactured by TrendNet and other companies are devices that computers use to detect and connect to wireless networks. If you use a Linkys wireless router at home and are unable to connect to its wireless network using your TrendNet wireless card, take a few basic troubleshooting steps on your own to isolate the problem and with any luck you will be back up and browsing the web wirelessly in no time.

Reset your network by unplugging the power cables of both your modem and your Linksys wireless router. Leave both devices unplugged and count to 30 seconds. Plug both power cords back in and allow for another 30 seconds for both units to fully reboot. Test your wireless connectivity again.

Try connecting to another wireless network to check for a possible issue with your Linksys router. If you are using a TrendNet wireless card on a laptop, you can take that laptop to another wireless connection that you are legally allowed to use, like a free public Wi-Fi hotspot. If you are able to connect to all other wireless networks but your own home Linksys network, the problem is likely isolated to your network and you will need to troubleshoot the wireless components of your Linksys router. The problem may also be with your Internet Service Provider. If the card does not connect to any wireless networks, it is necessary to check the wireless card for a possible malfunction.

Navigate to the computer's device manager by opening the Start menu and either choosing "Device Manager" from the Control Panel or by right-clicking on "My Computer," clicking "Properties," and choosing "Device Manager" from the Hardware tab, depending on what version of operating system you are using.

Check the wireless card in the device manager by clicking the "+" next to "Network Adapters" in the Device Manager. Look for your TrendNet wireless card in the list of network adapters and see if it has a "?," "X," or "!" listed over its name. If it does, contact TrendNet about a possible software driver update to your wireless card. If the name does not have any symbols over it yet you still have no connectivity, the TrendNet card may need to be replaced.
