How do I Clean an Engagement Ring at Home?

Save

Most women take great pride in the appearance of their engagement ring. You most likely want this particular piece of jewelry to sparkle and shine so you can continue to show it off to the world, not to mention your family and friends, for years to come. To make sure this is possible, you should always handle your engagement ring very carefully, using the correct techniques for proper care and cleaning. Otherwise, you could damage the precious metal or valuable stones.

Things You'll Need

  • Baking soda
  • Water
  • Soft toothbrush
  • Lint-free cloth
  • Dish detergent
  • Ammonia

Clean your Engagement Ring with Baking Soda

  • Mix together equal parts baking soda and water.

  • Use a soft toothbrush to clean the surface of your engagement ring with the baking soda cleaning solution. Be especially careful when cleaning the metal as it can scratch.

  • Clean the ring thoroughly, working baking soda into each crack and crevice and all around the stones.

  • Close your sink's drain (in case you drop the ring) and rinse the engagement ring with cool water. Be sure to remove all baking soda remnants.

  • Use a lint-free cloth to dry your engagement ring before putting it back onto your finger.

Clean your Engagement Ring with Dish Detergent

  • Mix together three parts warm water and one part dish detergent.

  • Put the ring down into the soapy water and then scrub the ring with a toothbrush.

  • Keep the ring in the soapy water for one night.

  • Rinse the engagement ring with cool water in the sink, keeping the drain closed to make sure the ring doesn't fall in.

  • Remove all moisture from the ring with a lint-free cloth before putting it back onto your finger.

Clean your Engagement Ring with Ammonia

  • Mix together equal parts ammonia and water.

  • Put the ring in the mixture for a few minutes.

  • Scrub all dirt from the ring lightly with a toothbrush and then rinse it off.

  • Dry the ring with a lint-free cloth.
