How to Install a PowerMac G4 Hard Drive
The Power Mac G4 is a desktop computer that allows people to get online and create digital documents. If you're looking to install a new hard drive to your Power Mac G4, you've probably researched the different Apple certified stores in your area. You don't have to spend money on installing a new hard drive to your G4; instead, you can do it yourself armed with a little knowledge.

Turn off the computer and unplug the power cable from the back of the G4's tower. Pull on the release switch on the side of the computer so the computer's tower door opens and folds out.

Locate the hard drive. The hard drive is located on the bottom of the computer tower just under the fan.

Unplug the power cord from the hard drive. The power cord is a two-pronged cord plugged into the back of the hard drive. Remove the ribbon cable from the hard drive. This cable is labeled "ATA" or "Hard Drive Cable."

Use a screwdriver to remove the attachment screw from the hard drive carrier. The hard drive carrier is what holds the hard drive in place. Pull the hard drive carrier out of the computer.

Remove the four screws holding he original hard drive into the hard drive carrier. These are on the side of the hard drive carrier. Place your new hard drive into the carrier and then replace the screws.

Place the hard drive back into the computer and replace the attachment screw. Plug the power cable and the ribbon cable into the hard drive. Close the computer up and plug it back into the wall.

Never work on a computer that is plugged into the wall.
