Orkut is a social network developed, owned and operated by Google. Orkut's social community allows you to connect with new, old and existing friends to exchange messages, pictures and more. The chat program is one of Orkut's most prominent features because it allows to communicate with friends in real-time using instant text messages. You can enjoy the company of friends using single or group chat.

Instructions

  1. Single Chat

      Log in to Orkut using your user name and password. You should see the chat roster on bottom right section of your page. Click "Online Friends" to maximize the chat list if it's minimized.

      Click the name of the person you want to chat with to launch the chat box. Type your messages in the chat box and press "Enter" to chat.

      Type a friend's name in the "Search" field if you want to chat with someone who does not appear in the "Online Friends" list. You can also chat with a friend by clicking the colored bubble that appears on your friend's picture if he or she is using chat.

      Change your online status by clicking the "Set status here" option and selecting the option you want. For example, select "Busy" if you want to let your Orkut friends know that you are not available to chat because you are busy.

    Group Chat

      Start a chat with a single person on Orkut.

      Click the "Person" icon located on the top of the chat window and enter the name of the person you want to add to the group chat from the "Add people to chat" field. Enter as many names as you want. Click "Invite." Your friends are able to join the group chat.

      Click the "X" located on the corner of the chat window if you want to leave the conversation. Orkut alerts the other chat members that you have left the conversation.

Tips & Warnings

  • Change your status to "Offline" if you do not want Orkut friends to chat with you.
