Setting up Road Runner email is easy in Thunderbird vesion 3.0.

Thunderbird is an email program designed by Mozilla. In older versions of Thunderbird, new email accounts had to be set up step-by-step, with users manually inputting account information, including user name, password, incoming and outgoing mail servers, port numbers and security authentication settings. Fortunately, the newer 3.0 version of Thunderbird allows users to set up an account with an email provider such as Road Runner more easily. Thunderbird can automatically configure most of the settings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your display name is the name displayed on your emails.

  • Road Runner email addresses are in the format: username@city.rr.com. For example, if your username is "John123" and you live in New York City, your email address would be John123@nyc.rr.com.

  • If you forget your username, use the online Username Tool to retrieve it. If you forget your password, use the Password Tool to reset it. Enter your new password in Thunderbird.

  • If the automatic configuration doesn't work, click "Manual Configuration." Contact Time Warner to determine your incoming and outgoing server port and security settings. These settings are not published online because Road Runner server settings differ from state to state. Also, settings are sometimes uniquely adjusted to safely bypass firewalls and anti-virus programs.
