How to Enable Pen Tablet in IE 7

Windows Vista and 7 both include "Tablet PC Components," a group of features that allow you to use a pen and tablet with Internet Explorer 7 and applications installed to your PC. However, administrative users can disable these components in the "Programs and Features" utility, accessible from the Control Panel. If these features are disabled, you will not be able to use the "Tablet PC Input Panel" to insert text into Internet Explorer 7. To use a pen and tablet in IE7, check first that the "Tablet PC Components" are enabled on your computer, then use the "Tablet PC Input Panel" to write your text.

Instructions

    • 1

Log onto Windows. Connect your tablet to the USB port located on the side or rear of your computer.

    • 2

Click "Start," then "Control Panel." Choose "Programs" from the list. Select "Turn Windows features on and off" from the options.

    • 3

Scroll to "Tablet PC Components." Place a check next to the box if one is not already present. Click "OK." Restart your computer to save your changes.

    • 4

Launch IE7 from the taskbar, desktop or Start menu. Tap the address bar with your pen to highlight the text.

    • 5

Click with your pen the "Tablet PC Input Panel" located on the left of the screen. Write the URL into the program provided. Text will appear along the bottom of the application as you write.

    • 6

Click "Insert" to transfer the text into IE7's address bar.
