How to Improve Download Speed in XP
Almost everybody who has ever used a computer will be aware of the frustration of a slow Internet connection. Users of Windows XP Professional can take some steps to make their Internet connection 20 percent faster. As a result, with just a few clicks of the mouse, users can significantly enhance their computer's performance within just a matter of minutes.

Log on to the computer as the administrator, through the main profile. If you log on to a different profile with administrator privileges, it may not work successfully.

Go to the "Start" tab, usually located at the bottom left corner of the screen. Click on "Run," and type "gpedit.msc" in the search box.

Go to the option labeled "Administrative Templates." Click on the "+" icon to expand the branch, which will reveal further options.

Go to the option labeled "Network." Click on the "+" icon to expand the branch, which will reveal further options.

Highlight the tab labeled "QoS Packet Scheduler," then check the enabled box on the "Settings" tab.

Change the "Bandwidth limit %" to zero (0%).

Click "Apply," then close "gpedit.msc."

Tips & Warnings
The changes will take effect immediately on some systems, but for some computers you will need to reboot the system for the changes to take effect.
This tip will not work on Windows XP Home Edition.
