Painting on Veneered Furniture
Old and worn furniture can be given a new life with a few coats of paint. While most homeowners have no problem painting wooden furniture, it can be intimidating to paint a piece of furniture made with veneer. Things You'll Need
- Fine-grit sandpaper
- Electric hand sander
- Latex primer
- Foam paintbrush
- Foam paint roller
- Latex paint

Sand the veneer with fine-grit sandpaper. Use an electric hand sander to help speed the process. Sand until the shine is gone from the veneer. Fold a piece of sandpaper in half and sand by hand the hard-to-reach areas of the piece of furniture.

Wet a rag with water and wring it out completely. Wipe the dust away from the furniture.

Coat the entire piece of veneered furniture with primer, using a foam paintbrush and foam paint roller. The primer will help the paint stick much easier and will block dark stains and colors from showing through the paint. Allow the primer to dry, following the manufacturer's directions.

Apply two coats of latex paint to the veneer, using the paintbrush and roller. Let the first coat of paint dry before applying the second coat of paint. After both coats of paint have dried, allow the veneered furniture several days to cure before use.
