How to Connect a Toshiba DVD Recorder to DirecTV

Use RCA cables to connect your Toshiba DVD recorder and non-HD DirecTV receiver.

Using a Toshiba DVD recorder with your DirecTV receiver allows you to capture your favorite television content onto writable DVDs. While HD DirecTV receivers connect with the Toshiba DVD recorder with a lone HDMI cable, you must use an RCA cable to connect non-HD receivers. Provided you have identified the input and output ports on both devices, you can quickly connect the DirecTV receiver to your Toshiba DVD recorder.

Instructions

1. Inspect your DirecTV receiver's output ports on the back of the device. Look for an HDMI port, as using an HDMI connection is simplest to install and provides the best possible sound and video quality. HDMI ports are available on HD DirecTV receivers. Otherwise, you must use an RCA cable to connect the non-HD DirecTV receiver to your Toshiba DVD recorder.

2. Insert one end of a HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the DirecTV receiver if you have an HD DirecTV receiver. Otherwise, insert one end of an RCA cable into an available color-coded output port on the DirecTV receiver. These ports will be labeled "Video Out" and "Audio Out."

3. Insert the other end of the HDMI cable into the Toshiba DVD recorder's HDMI port. Otherwise, insert the other end of the RCA cable into an available color-coded input port on the Toshiba DVD recorder. These ports will be labeled "Audio In" and "Video In." The Toshiba DVD recorder and DirecTV receiver will be connected at this point.
