How to Make a Hit Counter in HTML

A hit counter is usually a graphical representation of the number of page visits a website has received. In order to place a hit counter in the HTML of your webpage, you will need to sign up for a hit counter service with a hit counter host. Depending on the host, the hit counter will also track other website statistics such as other sites that referenced your website, what part of the world your visitors are from, how long they visited your website, what browsers they are using and what screen resolution their computer uses. Instructions

1. Go to a website that provides free hit counter hosting such as Counter.org, Website Hit Counters or Easy Counter.

2. Fill out the online form at the website to register for a free account. You may need to provide information such as your email address, your Web page’s URL and the style of hit counter that you want to use.

3. Copy the HTML counter code that is provided on the website once your registration is complete. You may also get an email with this code and your account information.

4. Open your webpage in your website text editor.

5. Paste the hit counter HTML code into the webpage code in the location that you would like the hit counter to display on your page.

6. Save the changes to your webpage’s HTML code and publish your webpage to the Internet.

7. View your revised webpage in a Web browser to see your new hit counter.
