How to Convert MSN Web-Based Calendar to PC Desktop

MSN Calendar (now called Live Calendar), a web-based calendar system created by Microsoft, allows users to share calendars with friends as well as export their calendars in the popular ICS (iCalendar) format. A calendar exported as an ICS file can be imported into many desktop calendar applications, including Apple iCalendar, Windows Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Works calendar and more.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the Live Calendar website (see Resources) using your web browser and log in using your username and password.

    • 2

Click the "Share" option at the top of your calendar and select the calendar you'd like to export.

    • 3

Select the "Share This Calendar" radio button. This will present several more options. Check off "Send friends a view-only link to your calendar."

    • 4

Click "Import into another calendar application." This will cause a box to pop up with a URL to your ICS file. Highlight the URL using your mouse, right-click it and select "Copy."

    • 5

Paste the URL into your web browser's address bar by right-clicking in the bar and selecting "Paste." Move to the beginning of the URL and replace "webcal" with "http", then press "Enter." This will download the ICS file to your desktop.

    • 6

Open your desktop calendar application and import the ICS file. This can usually be accomplished by clicking "File" > "Import", then selecting the ICS file from its saved location.
