How to Make a Rifle Tripod

How to Make a Rifle Tripod thumbnail
A tripod improves the accuracy when shooting a rfile.

A rifle is only as accurate as the person who is aiming it. You can make a tripod that will hold a rifle and provide a stable platform for shooting. You will need a few supplies from a photographic store as well as a hardware store. You will also need a few tools commonly found around the house. The tripod attached to your rifle will improve the accuracy and likelihood of hitting the target when you are aiming your rifle.

Things You'll Need

  • Work gloves
  • Newspaper
  • Photographic tripod
  • Bar holder
  • Pliers
  • Hacksaw
  • Rough sandpaper
  • Foam rubber
  • Utility knife
  • 1/4th-inch threaded nut

Instructions

    • 1

Bend the ends of the bar holder upward with the pliers. Be sure to wear your work gloves.

    • 2

Saw off the left and right wing-like parts of the bar holder with the hacksaw. Sand down the cut edges with the rough sandpaper.

    • 3

Place the bar holder face down on a sheet of newspaper on your work surface.

    • 4

Apply bonding glue to one side of the threaded nut. Place the threaded nut against the center of the bar holder. Let the bonding glue set for a day.

    • 5

Cut lengths of foam rubber that are the length of the sides and top of the bar holder with the utility knife. Place the lengths of foam rubber onto the sides and top of the bar holder. Hold the foam rubber to the bar holder with strips of duct tape.

    • 6

Screw the top of the photo tripod into the threaded nut at the bottom of the bar holder. Extend the tripod. Place the barrel of the rifle into the cradle created by the bar holder.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can "camouflage" the tripod by painting it with green spray paint.

  • Never take any weapon, real or fake, to a public place where people congregate.
