How to Remove a Schlage Lock
For decades, Schlage door locks has been one of the best-known and most durable brands of door hardware. After a decade or more of use, the company's door locks - either deadbolts or knobs and levers with locks - can wear out and need replaced. Or, they may need replaced simply because the finish doesn't match more modern door knobs or handles when you remodel a kitchen, bathroom or other part of your house. Just as the company's locks are easy to install, removing Schlage locks doesn't take much expertise or time. Does this Spark an idea?

Use your Philip's screwdriver in a counterclockwise motion to loosen the two bolts that hold either the doorknob or deadbolt in place on the interior face of the door. Unscrew the two screws that hold the faceplates for the Schlage deadbolt and knob on the side of the door.

Pull off the thumb turn and mounting plate components of the deadbolt on the interior of the door. Remove the deadbolt's outside cylinder on the exterior face of the door. Pull the Schlage deadbolt out of the side of the door.

Remove the doorknobs or levers from the interior and exterior sides of the door. Pull out the door latch from the side of the door once the knob assembly has been taken out.

Tips & Warnings
For doorknobs or deadbolts that no longer turn easily, try applying a lubricant, like WD 40, to the deadbolt and lever once they are removed. That will make them operate properly and may spare you from having to replace the Schlage lock assembly.
