How to Change the Default Email Program in Vista

After you've installed the Windows Vista operating system on your computer the default email program will be the Windows Mail application. You may have another email application, such as Microsoft Outlook, that you'd rather have used as the default program in Windows Vista. You can easily change the default email program at any time by viewing the items in your Default Programs folder. Before changing the default you need to also make sure that you have the email application you want to make the new default fully installed on your computer.

      Log in to Windows Vista with administrator privileges and then allow time for your desktop to load on your computer.

      Click on the "Start" button from your Windows Vista desktop and then click on the "Default Programs" option.

      Click on the "Set your default programs" option and a list of default programs will appear in the dialog box.

      Click on the email program that you want to make your new default from the "Programs" list.

      Click on the "Set this program as default" option and then click on the "OK" button. Your default email program will be changed.
