I Can't Run Regedit

If you are unable to open the Registry Editor on Windows, your system administrator has enabled a policy that is preventing you from launching the regedit program. You can change these settings as long as you have local administrator access to your computer through an account with administrative privileges or through the administrator account.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your computer with an administrator-level account.

    • 2

Click on the "Start" button, click on "Run" and then type "GPEdit.msc" into the Run window.

    • 3

Hit the "OK" button, open "User Configuration," open "Administrative Templates" and go into the "System" section.

    • 4

Double-click on the "Prevent access to registry editing tools" entry, select the "Disabled" option and click "OK."

    • 5

Restart the computer. Check to see if you are able to open the Registry Editor.
