How to Make a Pop Up Map
Making a pop-up map is similar to creating a pop-up book or pop-up card except that the item you are creating is a map. Pop-up maps can have any feature of the map pop up. For example, you can have a map where only the mountains pop up, or you can have a map where mountains, trees and even cities pop up. All you need to make your own pop-up map is a little creativity, and some everyday household items.

1
Fold a sheet of construction paper in half so that the two shortest ends of the paper meet, then open the sheet back up.
-
2
Draw your map on the side of the sheet that gets folded in when you fold the sheet of paper again. Use a pencil to make the drawings.
-
-
3
Decide what features of the map you want to pop up. For example, if you have a map with a forest area, you may want to pop up the trees in the forest.
-
4
Draw small trees on another sheet of construction paper, then cut out those trees using scissors.
-
5
Fold a small tab, about ¼-inch, on each of the trunks of the trees you just cut out.
-
6
Apply multi-purpose glue to the ¼-inch tabs then paste each of the trees to the forest in your map. Allow time for the glue to dry.
-
7
Fold each of the trees at the tab so that they lay flat on the map and then fold the map in half to close it. When you open the map up, the trees will pop up.
