If your computer fails to boot to the operating system, due to a corrupted or missing system file, a recovery disk can restore your PC to working order. However, some computer manufacturer's no longer include recovery disks with their products, requiring users to create their own boot disks. Fortunately, Windows 7 users can use a utility accessible from the Control Panel to create a bootable recovery CD.

      Click "Start," then "Control Panel." Click "Back up your computer" located beneath "System and Security."

      Select "Create a system repair disc," located on the left-hand side of the window. Insert a blank CD into your computer's optical drive.

      Select your CD or DVD drive from the "Drive" drop-down, then click "Create disc." Click "OK" once Windows has finished creating your recovery disk.
