Use your own emoticons in MSN Windows Live Messenger.

MSN's Windows Live Messenger contains emoticons that you can include in your instant messages. However, some users may find these icons limiting or unsuited to their personality. Fortunately, Windows Live Messenger allows users to upload their own emoticons. Many websites offer a large variety of non-standard smileys that you can use to enhance your instant messaging experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Start Windows Live Messenger and click the icon on the upper right side of the window.
Click "Tools" and select "Emoticons." This will open a box showing available emoticons.

    • 2

Click the "Create" button. This should produce a box labeled "Add a Custom Emoticon."

    • 3

Click the "Find Image" button. Select an image saved on your computer using the "Select a Custom Emoticon" dialog box. You can select an emoticon you downloaded or use a picture stored on your computer. Click the "Open" button.

    • 4

Create a keyboard shortcut for your emoticon. This can be any character, or group of characters, on the keyboard. While you are chatting with a friend, you can type this shortcut to insert the emoticon in the instant messenger window or you can select the image from the emoticon drop-down menu. Enter a name for the emoticon, if you wish. Click the "OK" button then click "Close."
