A pond can be a wonderful addition to a landscape. After all, the combination of water, plant life and the fish provides visual interest and sense of calming serenity. Keeping a pond in pristine condition is not easy, but it is not an impossible task. Does this Spark an idea?

- Water pump
- Air pump
- Filter-bio falls combination filter system or a pressurized filter-sponge filter combination filter system
- Pond plants
- UV sterilization filter
- Rake or pond vacuum
- Small garden shears
- Water
- Microbe-lift or pond zyme
- Foam-blocking product
- Fish food high in aquatic-based proteins

Install a water pump for every 100 gallons of water. This will keep the water circulating.

Combine the water pump with an air pump to help lift water from the bottom of the pond.

Install a pressurized filter-bio falls combination filter system or a pressurized filter-sponge filter combination filter system. This will maintain the pond's clarity.

Add plants with a good root structure. The majority of the leaves should remain above the water to help keep the pond clear. Ideal plants include water iris, sweet flag, parrots feather, bluebells, umbrella palm, bull rush and papyrus.

Install a UV sterilization system. This helps maintain fish health and prevents the spread of disease and algae growth.

Use a rake or pond vacuum to get rid of leaves and other debris from the pond.

Use small shears to trim pond vegetation once each season. This will maintain the health of the plant life and the pond.

Add new tap or well water, as needed, to maintain proper pond height and to stabilize the pond environment.

Apply microbe-lift or pond zyme to remove sludge build-up from walls of the pond.

Apply a foam blocking product to eliminate foam from pond water.

Feed fish in the pond food high in aquatic-based proteins. Feed once a day when the temperature is below 70 degrees or twice daily in warmer weather. This makes for less nitrogenous waste added to the water.
