How to Troubleshoot a Taskbar That Won't Stay Set
The Windows taskbar is the long bar at the bottom of the screen where the Start button as well as the system tray are housed. If you are having problems with your taskbar, there are a number of things you can try to reset it. Just like any other visual component of Windows, the taskbar can be modified, so troubleshooting a problem like the taskbar not staying set is just a matter of finding and adjusting the right settings.

1
Log in to Windows using an administrator's account. You cannot modify taskbar settings unless you are set as an administrator.
-
2
Go to the bottom of the page to bring up the taskbar. Once it appears, right-click on it and press "Properties."

-
3
Under the "Taskbar" tab, uncheck the "Auto-hide the taskbar" button and then select "Lock the Taskbar" and "Keep the Taskbar on top of other Windows." These options will keep your taskbar anchored at the bottom of the screen and will prevent it from moving to another side of the screen if accidentally clicked.

Tips & Warnings
If you are using Windows Vista, you cannot access the "Properties" menu from the Taskbar. Instead, go to the Control Panel, and select Appearance and Personalization, and then click on the taskbar and Start Menu button.
