A Christmas tree can make a great costume.

A Christmas tree makes a great costume for a Christmas pageant or for an offbeat Halloween party. Such a costume allows you to be a walking symbol of Christmas and is extremely comfortable. It's easy to make a Christmas tree costume out of fabric as the design is so simple that you don't need to use a pattern. Instead, you can cut and sew the fabric along your body's size and proportions Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Tightly wrap the green felt or velvet around your shoulders, letting it hang down into a cone shape that is wider at the feet. Ensure the length touches, but does not drag on the floor.

    • 2

Hold the fabric wrapped around you with one hand and with your other hand, insert one pin at the neck of the garment to hold it in place.

    • 3

Cut slits at hip height on either side of the garment so that your hands can move in and out of it easily.

    • 4

Add a few more pins going down the length of the garment. At this point the garment should resemble a long cloak, enveloping your entire body in a cone-shape.

    • 5

Remove the fabric from your body very carefully, pulling it up over your head, keeping the pins in place.

    • 6

Cut away any excess fabric in the length. Sew a long seam along the pins, making your stitches tight and close together.

    • 7

Cut a piece of wire the same length of the circumference of the bottom of the garment.

    • 8

Create a 1-inch hem at the bottom of the garment and fold the wire into the hem, creating a hoop that distinguishes the shape of the bottom of the tree. Pin it into place.

    • 9

Sew along the pins, creating an even hem which envelopes the wire.

    • 10

Wrap garland around the garment, as you would a Christmas tree. Sew a few stitches around the garland, stitching it in place to the felt.

    • 11

Sew non-breakable ornaments onto the felt by inserting a stitch into the top metal loop of each ornament.
