Troubleshoot your remote control.

Although the alarm key for a Mercury Mountaineer is a handy tool to have, you can run into some slight issues with the remote. The issues aren't severe and it doesn't prevent you from driving your vehicle, but you probably should take care of the issue if you like using the alarm key. Thankfully, most issues you run into with the remote can be fixed on the spot.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Unlock" button before attempting to unlock the car with your key. If the alarm is on and you insert the key into the car, it can set the alarm off.

    • 2

Unlock the car before opening the trunk. Like the previous step, the alarm can sound if the car is locked and you are opening the trunk.

    • 3

Wipe off the alarm key. If you have dripped food or other objects onto the alarm, it can stick onto the button and prevent it from functioning.

    • 4

Replace the battery to the Mercury Mountaineer alarm key. When the battery begins to die the key no longer functions properly and can stop working all together. The alarm takes a flat, three-volt battery.
