Cardboard box (cereal box)
Top of a peanut butter jar
Markers or paints
Additional pieces of cardboard
Plain paper
Glue
Post-it note pad
3 to 4 milk jug caps
Children love to play imaginative games and what better way to spend time with your children then making something together. A cardboard camcorder unleashes creativity and allows your child to play the role of an actor in front of the camera or the director behind the camera. A fun follow-up activity after a lesson on film-making and a decorative accent for a Hollywood-themed birthday bash, creating projects with cardboard is also an effective way to teach your child about recycling materials.
Step 1
Cover a medium-sized box (like a cereal box) entirely with sheets of plain paper. Secure the paper with glue.

Step 2
Decorate the paper with markers, paints or crayons. Write words or draw pictures on the camcorder or color the entire camcorder black.
Step 3
Attach the top of a peanut butter jar to either the top or bottom of the box using glue. Let the opening of the peanut butter jar face outwards. This will be the pretend lens of the camcorder.
Step 4
Glue 3 to 4 milk jug caps to the top of the camcorder. Label the milk caps "record", "stop", "fast forward" and so on.
Step 5
Glue a Post-it note pad on the back of the camcorder to serve as a picture screen. Children can draw on the Post-it pad as the scene changes.
Step 6
Cut out an optional cardboard handle to attach to the top of the camcorder with glue.
