How to Change Engine Oil in a 2000 Indian Chief Motorcycle

The engine oil on your Indian Chief motorcycle needs to be changed at least every 5,000 miles. Changing the engine oil on this motorcycle is not difficult to do. The oil crank case has a metal plug on the bottom of it. On the upper side of the oil crank case is a small cap that has "OIL" written on it, this is where you need to pour the new engine oil into the engine.

  • Drain pan
  • Ratchet set
  • Funnel
  • New engine oil

      Look at the under side of the engine and locate the oil plug. Place the oil drain plug under the oil plug.

      Remove the oil plug using the ratchet set. Allow all of the engine oil to drain into the drain pan for five minutes. Replace the oil plug to the bottom of the engine.

      Twist off the small capon the side of the engine that has "OIL" written on it. Insert the funnel into the hole and pour one bottle of new motorcycle engine oil into the crank case.

      Replace the small cap to the engine and tighten. Run the engine for 1 or 2 minutes.
