How to Remove Cat Urine From Car Carpets

It is important to use the proper products and methods to remove cat urine from car carpets so that the urine smell does not come back.

- Paper towels
- Empty spray bottle
- Distilled white vinegar
- Water
- Small bowl
- ¼ cup hydrogen peroxide
- 1 tsp. mild liquid dish soap
- Baking soda
- Vacuum cleaner
- Odor neutralizing spray

Absorb the cat urine from the carpet with paper towels. Lay a thick layer of paper towels onto the urine-stained carpet. Press firmly with your foot or hand to soak up as much of the urine as possible. Continue this process until no more urine transfers from the carpet to the paper towels.

Fill an empty spray bottle with a vinegar and water solution. Mix equal parts distilled white vinegar and cool water into the bottle. Shake the bottle a couple of times to combine the ingredients.

Saturate the urine-stained car carpet with the vinegar and water solution. Be sure to spray enough of the solution onto the carpet so that it penetrates deep into the fibers of the carpeting.

Blot the stained area with a thick layer of paper towels. Continue blotting until most of the vinegar and water solution has been absorbed and the carpet is almost dry.

Fill a small bowl with ¼ cup hydrogen peroxide. Add 1 tsp. mild liquid dish soap to the peroxide. Mix the ingredients with a spoon.

Sprinkle the carpet generously with baking soda. Drizzle the peroxide and dish soap mixture over the baking soda.

Work the baking soda and peroxide mixture into the car carpet using a scrub brush. Apply some force when scrubbing so that the mixtures reaches deep into the fibers of the carpet.

Allow the baking soda and peroxide mixture to dry completely. Roll the windows down in the car, if possible, to speed up the drying process. This will take about a couple of hours.

Vacuum the car carpet thoroughly to remove the baking soda residue. Spray the carpet with an odor neutralizing product such as Febreze or OdoBan.
