An Adobe browser plugin gives Internet Explorer additional features, such as opening PDF files in a browser window or as a part of a Web page. The plugin is supported only in Internet Explorer. To enable it, a computer user must have the latest version of Adobe Reader. The setting to open up PDF files in a Web browser must be enabled as well.

  1. Install Adobe Reader

      Open an Internet Explorer window.

      Type in the URL "http://get.adobe.com/reader/" and hit "Enter."

      Click on the "Download" button.

      Run the installation process by following instructions on screen.

      Restart the computer if prompted.

    Configuring Adobe Reader Browser Settings

      Click on the "Start" icon and select "All Programs."

      Click on the icon for "Adobe Reader" to open the program. There may be a version listed such as Adobe Reader 8.

      Click on "Edit" and choose "Preferences."

      Click on the "Internet" tab.

      Place a check-mark next to "Open PDF files in Web browser." Click "OK" to confirm your settings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Open a new Internet Explorer window once settings have been changed. You do not have to restart the computer.
