How to Play PS2 Games on a New 80Gb PS3
Expand your PlayStation 3 game library by playing PlayStation 2 games. The PlayStation 2 had hundreds of great games that you can now find at a bargain price since they’re last-generation games. While they PlayStation 3 does not have full backwards compatibility, most PlayStation 2 games will work on your PlayStation 3.

Check your PlayStation 2 game’s compatibility by going to the official PlayStation support website (see Resources).

Select the “80GB” radio button and type in the name of the game. You must type it exactly as it appears on the game case (for example, “Final Fantasy X,” not “Final Fantasy 10”).

Click “Submit.” At this point you may be asked to provide further details, including whether the game was for PlayStation or PlayStation 2, and the developer’s name.

Analyze the search results. It will say “No major problems for this title,” or will give a list of possible glitches or errors associated with the game.

Insert the PlayStation 2 game disc into your PlayStation 3 if you’ve been given the go-ahead by the support website. Play the game as you would normally.

Tips & Warnings
Some games may function only partially, so be sure to thoroughly read the notes on the support site. For instance, some games will play but may suffer from occasional graphical glitches.
