How to Get Businesses to Donate to Your Charity

Your favorite charity is having a fundraising event and your job is to get businesses to donate to your charity. Business can be convinced to donate to a charity; they donate cars to charity and other items that they can write off. Keep in mind that whatever donation they make, they are making it to the person who asked, don't be afraid to ask.

Instructions

1. Many charities have support groups or business meetings conducted at restaurants on a regular basis. If yours does, tell the manager of the restaurant about your fundraiser and ask for a donation. They will likely donate to your charity because of the continued business that you bring them.

2. Think of all of your friends who own their own businesses. You more than likely know someone who sells Mary Kay, Avon, Herbalife, Slumber Parties, Amway or any other multitude of multi-marketing businesses out there. Ask them to donate a gift basket to raffle on the day of your fundraiser. Think of your friends who work for themselves as an electrician, financial planner, hairdresser or whatnot and ask them to donate their services as well. This is a win-win situation as they will also get publicity. Generally the charity will put their business name on t-shirts and banners as well depending on the size of their donation.

3. Take a moment and write down all of the places you have worked and who you knew there. Your co-worker that you used to laugh with might be in the accounting department now and might have major sway on where the money is spent.

4. Think of people that you used to go to school with. You may have a friend who became the Chief Financial Officer of a huge company who can approve a charity donation. Maybe one of your golf buddies plays golf with someone important. You never know until you ask. Even if they say no, you haven't lost anything.

5. If you stop at a coffee shop every morning on your way to work ask the manager there if the coffee shop can give to charity. If fact, think of all of the places you frequent and ask all of them, as one of their loyal customers, if they can donate to a charity. Sometimes companies already donate once a year and they donate to the first charity to ask.
