How to Configure Comcast

Comcast's high-speed Internet service provides a fast and constant connection to the Internet. You will need to configure your computer correctly for the hardware to communicate properly with Comcast servers through the cable modem. Establishing the correct properties on your network settings allows your computer to automatically configure certain network settings for communication with Comcast.

  1. For Windows

      Open the network connection settings on your computer. Find this in Windows under the "Start" menu. Click on "All Programs," then open "Control Panel" and select "Network Connections."

      Open the "Local Area Connection" properties by right-clicking on the icon and selecting "Properties" from the dropdown menu. Open the "Local Area Connection Properties" dialogue box. Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)," then click "Properties."

      Select the "General" tab, then select the button marked "Obtain an IP address automatically." Select also the button that says "Obtain DNS server address automatically," then click "OK". This will allow Comcast's information for IP and DNS servers to be automatically obtained by your computer.

    For Mac

      Click on the Apple logo in the top toolbar, then select "System Preferences" from the dropdown menu, opening the System Preferences screen.

      Select "Network" from the System Preferences screen, opening the Network setup screen. Select your connection preference for wireless or an Ethernet connection from the left side of the Network screen.

      Select the "AirPort" option for wireless connection. Choose "Advanced," then select the "TCP/IP" tab. Set the "Configure IPv4" option to "Using DCHP" and select "Automatically" under the "Configure IPv6" option. Select "OK" to save these changes, then choose "Apply" to configure your Mac.

      Select the Ethernet option for Ethernet connections, then choose "Using DCHP" from the "Configure IPv4" dropdown menu. Select the "Apply" option to have your settings configured automatically.
