How to Get on XBox Live Through Windows Live Games

Games for Windows -- Live is Microsoft's all-in-one venture into the online PC gaming market and is available for free download on Microsoft's website. Once installed, the program logs you into your free Games for Windows -- Live account or even your existing Xbox Live account. The system creates a uniform way of online gaming between Microsoft's popular Xbox Live service and PC online gaming. Once logged in, gamers can play on Xbox Live with their PC game so long as the PC game is also released on the Xbox 360.

Instructions

      Create your Windows -- Live ID at the account creation page. Enter information into the appropriate text boxes, such as your email account, password and date of birth. Check the references section for the account creation page. Click "Next" to continue to set up your unique gamertag, which you can use on Xbox Live.

      Enter your gamertag and check availability. If the gamertag is unavailable, Microsoft will provide you with several alternates. Finish setting up your gamertag by selecting your profile picture and gamer zone. Click "Next" to continue to the last setup page.

      Click "I Accept" to finish creating your account.

      Visit the Games for Windows homepage and click on the large blue "Download" button to download the Games for Windows -- Live software setup. Check the references section for the Games for Windows homepage link.

      Launch the software setup when the download completes. This will open a new window that introduces you to the program. Click "Next" to continue.

      Click "Next" until the installation process begins. You'll be shown a status bar informing you of the progress of the installation. Download time varies but should take a few minutes.

      Open the Games for Window -- Live program once the installation completes and log into your Windows -- Live ID and gamertag that you created in step one.
