1
Look at the bag carefully. If it generally does not look like anything that Coach has ever produced, there is a good chance it is fake. Also, sloppiness may indicate a fake.
-
2
Check for uneven patterns on the outside of the purse. An authentic Coach purse will have symmetrical "CC" patterns (if it is using that pattern, a lot of Coach purses are plain or have a special seasonal style). Also, the front of the purse will match the back and the "Cs" will like up with pockets and seems so the stitching doesn't cut off any "C" design.

3
Look closely at the "Cs" on the outside of the purse. If they resemble "Gs" or any other letter, the bag is fake.
-
4
Look inside the purse. On the inside of the fabric there should be a leather patch. The patch will have the Coach logo and a serial number for the purse. Some fake purses try to replicate the patch and may have its own serial number. The last four to five digits of a Coach purse indicate the style of the purse.
-
5
Check the metal on the purse. Most Coach purses stamp the metal with their logo. Be careful because not all Coach purses stamp the metal. It depends on the style, so check the style number on the purse to see if it is the specific style that does not do this to the metal.
-
6
Check the zipper on the purse. Coach zipper pulls are always leather or rings. They never use a metal tab zipper pull. The actual zipper will be embossed with the letters "YKK," which is the zipper manufacturer that Coach uses. It may be very, very small.
-
7
Look at the inside of the purse again. If the outside of the purse has the "CC" pattern, the inside fabric should not have the "CC" pattern as well. Usually if the outside of the purse is plain it will have the "CC" pattern inside. There are cases where the "CC" pattern will be on neither the inside or outside, but the pattern will never be on both inside and outside.
