    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Birdseeds
    • Rolling Matts
    • All-purpose Flour
    • Baking Powder
    • Butter
    • Granulated Sugar
    • Cookie Cutters
    • Cookie Sheets
    • Drinking Straws
    • Rolling Pins
    • Twine
    • Cookie sheets
    • 2 eggs
      • 1

        Combine 2 c. flour, 1/4 c. sugar and 1/2 tsp. baking powder.

      • 2

Add 1/2 c. butter or shortening.

      • 3

        Mix until crumbly.

      • 4

Drop in two eggs - include the shells.

      • 5

Knead 1/2 c. wild birdseed into the dough.

      • 6

Cover with a wet dish towel and refrigerate for 4 hours.

      • 7

Sprinkle flour on a rolling pin and rolling mat.

      • 8

Roll out the cookie dough to about 1/4-inch thick.

      • 9

Use a coffee mug or large drinking glass to cut circles in the dough.

      • 10

Press a drinking straw into the center of each cookie, making a small hole. This is where you'll tie twine through to hang the cookies.

      • 11

Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 325 degrees F for 10 to 13 minutes. The cookies are done when they're hard.

      • 12

Cut a 3-foot piece of twine.

      • 13

Tie a knot at one end and string a cookie onto it. Above that, tie another knot and string another cookie onto it.

      • 14

Continue until you have a string of cookies.

My grandparents use to do this when I was a little girl. I remember hanging them in the trees. Thanks for the recipe, I will be sure to do this with my kids this Christmas.
