How to Delete Internet Explorer & Then Reinstall It

Save

Deleting your Internet Explorer browser is a good idea if you're experiencing frequent crashes or problems. It's also a great option if you suspect the presence of virus writers, spyware or hackers on your computer's operating system. The process itself is quite simple. Before reinstalling, look to find the most recent version of Internet Explorer. The newer the version is, the fewer problems you'll experience with hackers and viruses.

  • Download a web browser other than Internet Explorer if you do not already have one. Other browsers include Google Chrome, Opera and Mozilla Firefox.

  • Open the "Start" menu and click on "Control Panel." If you have Windows 7 or Windows Vista, click on "Uninstall a Program" under the Programs section of the Control Panel. If you have Windows XP or older, select the "Add/Remove Programs" option.

  • Click on "Turn Windows Features On or Off" in the tasks pane if you use Windows 7. Click on "View Installed Updates" in the tasks pane if you use Windows Vista.

  • Find Internet Explorer in the list of programs and click "Remove." Confirm that you want to remove it and wait for it to uninstall.

  • Open your other website and type in www.microsoft.com/ie into the address bar. Click on the link to download the latest version of Internet Explorer.

  • Open the downloaded file and follow the directions to complete the installation process.
