How to Check If PC Has DVD Recorder

Creating DVD photo slide shows of the year's events for family and friends to enjoy has become a popular gift. But it's upsetting to purchase some DVD-R disks and realize after opening them that your PC plays DVDs, but doesn't allow you to record them. Save yourself time, money and headache by following these steps to determine if your PC has a DVD recorder.

Instructions

    • 1

Double click the My Computer icon from your desktop or start menu.

This differs depending on which operating system you are using.

    • 2

      Click the "System Tasks" heading.

    • 3

      Click "View System Information."

    • 4

      Click the "Hardware" tab.

    • 5

      Click on "Device Manager."

Here you will be provided with a window tree of all of the devices installed on your PC.

    • 6

Click the plus sign (+) next to the branch titled "DVD/CD-ROM drives."

A menu will drop down listing all of the drives installed on your PC.

    • 7

      Right click on each drive.

This will bring up the drive properties window. If the device type description reads "DVD-R, DVD-RW, or DVD+R," then your drive has recording capabilities.
