How to Convert FLV to MP3 With VLC

VLC (also known as VideoLan) is a powerful video player and converter. It can also convert and export audio only from audio/video files. For example, it can perform an FLV (Flash Video) to MP3 conversion. People commonly export just the audio from a video for webcasts, podcasts, or talk shows.

Instructions

    • 1

Open VLC. Open your FLV by clicking "File" and selecting "Open File."
Click "Browse..." in the "Open Source" window, locate your FLV, and click "Ok."

    • 2

Click "File" at the top of the screen and select "Streaming/Exporting Wizard." Click "Transcode/Save to File" and click "Next."

    • 3

Click "Existing Playlist Item" and highlight your file in the playlist window. Click "Next."

    • 4

Click the "Transcode Audio" button near the bottom of the screen. Select "MP3" in the "Codec" menu. Click "Next."

    • 5

Choose your "Encapsulation Format" by selecting one of the highlighted options. (For generic conversions, it will already have selected one for you.) Click "Next."

    • 6

Click "Choose..." to select your output destination. Click "Next." Click "Finish" on the "Summary" screen to begin the conversion.

Thanks, but this doesn't work. MP3 is not one of the encapsulation formats you can choose at the end when saving, and if you try to fake it, the file doesn't come out as an MP3 anyway.
