How to Change Wireless Adapter on Acer Aspire One

The Acer Aspire One is an inexpensive netbook computer. A netbook is exactly like a laptop computer, only there is no CD/DVD drive and the screen is only 10 inches. There is a built-in wireless adapter in the Acer Aspire. However, the Wi-Fi receiver is not extremely powerful, so if you want a more powerful connection you can change the wireless adapter in use by the computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Close out any Internet connection you currently have with your Wi-Fi adapter.

    • 2

Connect the USB Wi-Fi adapter to one of the free USB ports on the computer. The drivers are already installed on the USB adapter, so there is no need to install any outside software. Wait for the computer to detect the Wi-Fi adapter.

    • 3

Click the Wi-Fi icon in the lower right corner of the Acer Aspire One desktop. This brings up a pull-down menu.

    • 4

Select the Wi-Fi adapter as your source for the Internet connection. In a moment the possible Wi-Fi signals are going to be shown.

    • 5

Select the signal you want to connect to. If you are asked for a password, type it in now. Click "Connect" and the Acer Aspire One connects to the Wi-Fi signal through the new wireless adapter.
