How to Make Wild Cherry Bark Tea

Wild cherry bark has many uses but is mainly used to treat coughs and other respiratory ailments. It is also used to lower blood sugar, relax muscles, fight bacteria, and as an anti-inflammatory. The bark is available as a powder or liquid in most health food and vitamin retailers. It is easily made into a tea that is taken orally to treat a cough or other ailment. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Wild cherry bark
  • Pot
  • Strainer

Instructions

      Pour one cup of water into a pot and place the pot on a stove or other heating source.

      Heat the water until it comes to a full boil, then turn off the heat. Add 1 tsp. of wild cherry bark in either powdered or liquid form.

      Allow the bark to steep in the hot water for 10 minutes or longer. Pour the liquid through a small strainer to remove any sediment.

      Add honey to the tea to sweeten to taste. Sugar and lemon can also be used, if preferred.

Tips & Warnings

  • All parts of the wild cherry tree contain hydrocyanic acid, which is toxic in large amounts. The tea is not safe for children younger than 2 years. Do not drink more than three cups of the tea in a day. The tea should also be avoided by women who are pregnant or nursing.
