Instructions

  1. Using Old Necklaces

    • 1

Find as many strands of pearls and other beaded necklaces as you can. If you want a certain color theme, then use only necklaces that complement each other.

    • 2

Plug in the hot glue gun so it can be warming.

    • 3

Cut each necklace so it is no longer attached, or if it has a clasp to keep it closed, simply clip the clasp off with a pair of scissors. Be careful once you cut the necklace that the beads do not fall off the string. Some beads are glued onto the string while others are not. If your beads are not, then you will need to tie a knot in both ends of the string to keep the beads on the string.

    • 4

Lay the beads on a long table and attach them at each end with the hot glue. Hold the two ends together for about a minute so the glue can begin to dry and cure. Be very careful to not burn your fingers.

    • 5

Continue to attach the necklaces together until you have the desired length. It is recommended you use 10 feet of garland, ribbon or beads for every foot of tree height. You may want to consider doing 20 feet of necklace at a time. If your tree is 6 feet tall, then you would need 60 feet of necklace to trim the tree accurately. Sixty feet may be difficult to manage, especially as you are trying to wrap it around the tree. Twenty feet at a time would be easier to handle.

    • 6

Slide old rings of all different styles onto the necklace before you hang it around your tree. Once the necklace is in place, arrange the rings so they dangle with jewels (if the rings have them) on the outside of the tree, making them more noticeable.

Using Old Earrings, Rings, Broaches and Bracelets

    • 7

Find earrings that hang long and dangle. These types of earrings will be more noticeable on your tree than small studs.

    • 8

Purchase a box of wire ornament hooks and attach one hook to each earring. You can remove the earring hook that is already attached or you can add the ornament hook to the current hook.

    • 9

Hang the earrings around the tree.

    • 10

Gather a variety of old bracelets and hang them from branches of the tree, as you would an ornament.

    • 11

Use broaches as you would the earrings. Attach an ornament hook to the back clasp and hang it from the tree any way that you want it. You can also clasp the broaches around the necklace that is hung around the tree.
