Storage unit auctions. Whenever people don't pay for their storage units, their items are auctioned. They open up the door of the unit and everyone bids. Most unit contents sell for between $10-$700. Some of the auctions can turn a profit of ten times what you invested. Many eBay powersellers are doing this technique. The best way to find out about these auctions is to call your local storage facilities.

Garage and yard sales. Every weekend, if the weather is good, you can roam around town and find people putting their unwanted items in their front yard and the only competition stopping you from getting to the good stuff are the neighbors, or people who happen to be driving by. Since most garage and yard sales aren't advertised, all you have to do is get an early start.

Chances are, all of the items they are trying to get rid of aren't going to sell. If they have a lot of treasures you think look good, ask them if they might sell you everything for a predetermined price, either right then or for a super discounted amount when the garage sale is over.

Post on Craigslist for unwanted items to buy in bulk. Posting in Craigslist is free and you can target your own city, allowing you to pick up items easily and save on shipping. You can ask for any used items, or specify what you would like to buy from them. Electronics, sports equipment and children's clothing are among the highest selling items on eBay.

When you get a response from people on Craigslist, find out if clothing is brand named, get makes and models of electronics, plus ask about the condition of items. If they don't say the items are in very good or excellent condition, ask them to email you a few pictures, so you don't waste your time driving over to look at merchandise that doesn't meet reselling standards. Next, look up the same items listed on eBay and see what they are selling for before you purchase. Do your best to buy at 50% or less than what you believe it will sell for. Test all electronics before buying them.

Thrift stores are another great way to find some awesome deals. However many people shop there every day and buy up the best deals that have a resell value. Start up a conversation with the people who work in the thrift stores and ask them what days and times the department stores donate.

Buy from eBay to sell on eBay. There are many people who sell items in lots to save time and prevent having to ship to multiple buyers. So consider what you would like to sell--electronics being one of the most lucrative, and buy a lot of 20 or so of the same thing, then double your profit by selling them separately. If you or a loved one knows how to fix broken electronics, you can buy broken game systems in lots and fix them for a nice profit.
