How to Shape a Square Body

A square body shape, sometimes called an "H" shape, has straight lines instead of curves, giving you a sporty look. That's according to color and wardrobe consultant Darlene Miller, who states that a square body shape has little or no waist, straight ribs, a flat derriere and straight legs. If you have a square shape, your main goal might be to find clothes that make you look like you have curves. This is easy to do with a few tricks and a dash of optical illusion.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose skirts and pants that have minimal gathers and pressed down pleats.

    • 2

Narrow belts or matching belts can give the illusion of curves. If you are carrying a few extra pounds, forget the belts: square body shapes tend to put on weight in the midriff, so you don't want to draw attention to your love handles.

    • 3

Buy V-neck sweaters and shirts: they draw attention away from your body's straight edges.

    • 4

If choosing a wedding dress, a full skirt and big sleeves will provide instant curves.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid form fitting or hip-hugging dresses.

  • Stay away from short jackets that end at the waist.

  • If you wear a top with small horizontal lines, don't tuck it in at the waist.
